Cactus is a software-based private branch exchange (PBX) for Voice over IP telephones. It runs on any Windows PC with a network adapter and also implements a VoIP-ISDN gateway if an optional ISDN card is plugged into the PC. This allows the integration into a conventional ISDN PBX so that analogue and ISDN phones can be used for inbound and outbound VoIP calls. For the night and for weekends or holidays a different call routing can be configured. Cactus is SIP compliant and avoids external IP traffic for internal telephone conversation. For external calls, all SIP-based providers like SipGate can be used. Calls are written into a CSV-formatted log file. The PBX can also run as a Windows service so it does not require a logged in user. Three versions are available: SoHo for 2, Pro for 8, S2M for up to 60 connections.
